Rooftop Cinema: Tony Conrad: Completely in the Present
June 21 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Tony Conrad (1940–2016) was one the great American artists of his time, yet to the world at large he remains under-recognized. Since the early 1960s, Conrad’s films and compositions have been the stuff of legend for artists and musicians everywhere. His vast, fifty year inter-disciplinary repertoire inspired and confounded generations of artists, collaborators, and fans. The non-linear structure of Tyler Hubby’s new documentary about Conrad mirrors the artist’s own playfully radical approach to art making. Hubby allowed Conrad to wildly free associate his streams of consciousness, revealing an honest and humane way of navigating a creative life.
Films begin at sundown, at approximately 9 pm. Rooftop Cinema is free for MMoCA members/$5 for non-members; admission begins at the lobby reception desk 30 minutes before screen time. Screenings relocate to the lecture hall if rain is predicted.
