The Sons of Worse than Bitches Have Put A Hole in My Head!!
John Wilde
1944
graphite and ink on paper
14" x 11 1/2"
Wilde made this self-portrait when he was in the Army. He considered his time in the service a prison sentence and would sign drawings with the letters “IC”, his abbreviation for “in confinement.” The portraits Wilde made from his time stationed in the Army (1942-46) were psychologically charged and often expressed his frustration with the war.
