Strata was purchased from the artist’s 1991 exhibition at the Madison Art Center. The installation reflected her early life in post-war South Korea and her displeasure with the unnecessary waste of Americans. The found, discarded objects that are incorporated into her sculptures—like the piano, that would have been repaired and reused in South Korea—gain new life in her works of art.
