Some Pop artists become intrigued with billboards and overblown movie close-ups. The influence of such imagery can be seen in the new-realist work of Alex Katz where everything is immediately identifiable and greatly magnified. No extraneous details or shading are included that would distract from the impact of his contemporary and unemotional images. Faces are clarified beyond reality and enlarged far beyond normal size. Shapes are clean and colors are courageous.
