Sir Terry Frost
Born: 1915
Died: 2003
Frost was a British prisoner of war held captive by German troops during World War II. Upon his return to England in 1946, he set up a studio that overlooked the sea in St. Ives, Cornwall. The sea, choppy and dotted with bobbing boats, inspired the crescent and semi-circle shapes traditionally found in his work. Often working in blues and grays, he made a shift to brighter colors in the late 1960s.
