Enjoy the work of visual and video artist José Carlos Teixeira on the opening night of his Imprint Gallery exhibition, ON EXILE, on Friday, March 9. Teixeira’s work explores notions of belonging and exile. Beginning at 6pm, guests may view ON EXILE; the BIG exhibition in the Main galleries; Art/Word/Image in the State Street Gallery; and Reconfigured Reality: Contemporary Photography from the Permanent Collection in the Henry Street Gallery. At 6:30pm artist José Teixeira will give a lecture about the evolution and intent of his work. Following the talk, guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres from Fresco and live music from Mal-O-Dua in the lobby. Free for MMoCA members / $10 for non-members.

Interdisciplinary artist José Carlos Teixeira will discuss his work, including ON EXILE: Elsewhere within here (2017), a recent experimental documentary film on view in the Imprint Gallery that explores identity, migration, and displacement through first-person interviews with Muslim refugees. In addition to his artistic practice, Teixeira is an assistant professor in the UW-Madison Art Department.
This talk is part of an MMoCA Opening and is free for members and $10 for non-members. Seating in MMoCA’s lecture hall is limited.
