Community in Art

A community is formed in a variety of ways, such as by having shared beliefs, living in the same place, or being dependent on one another. Our activities, relationships, and histories can shape our sense of community and create feelings of belonging and shared experience.

In the Neighborhood: Community in Art features works of art that explore these ideas. With humor and imagination, they express ideas about community and belonging, about friendship and adventure, and about responsibility and understanding.

David Bigelow explores the complexities of identity and relationships within communities; Red Grooms humorously captures the collective drama of a deluge in the city; and Juan Sanchez depicts three young girls in an image that speaks of social justice and celebrates diversity and inclusion.
