For Teens

Teen Forum

The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art is excited to announce the formation of a new teen-led group, the MMoCA Teen Forum. Members of the Teen Forum meet virtually to develop programming for the upcoming Teen Art Exhibition in the MMoCA lobby in April 2021. The participants of the program will receive mentorship from MMoCA Curatorial and Educational staff in order to conceive, plan, curate, and implement a teen art exhibition.

The Teen Forum consists of a small group of 9th-12th graders, ages 14-18 in the Madison area who are interested and passionate about all kinds of art, including traditional and nontraditional art forms. The Teen Forum has the autonomy to build a meaningful and relevant arts program at the museum, and will be exposed to a diverse array of careers within the arts. Members are paid a stipend.

The application period for the 2020/21 Teen Forum is closed. We look forward to announcing our next application period!

Teen Art Exhibition

The MMoCA Teen Forum is looking for artwork from a teen perspective about isolation, in all of its many forms: the good, the bad, and the beautiful. Artwork should include themes of isolation and/or solitude, in or out of quarantine. We are looking for works that represent diverse experiences of the impact of isolation. All forms of artwork will be considered.

MMoCA’s Teen Art Exhibition will be on display in the Museum lobby from April 3 through June 6, 2021.

EXTENDED DEADLINE: February 15, 2021 at 11:59pm.

Meet the 2021 Teen Forum:

Josie:

My name is Josie Schoen and I am an artist and a Senior in high school. I like to watch movies, listen to music, run cross country, and sculpt and paint. In addition to being a teen forum member, I run my own online vintage clothing store. I hope to someday have a job in the art or fashion industry. I am so excited to be a part of the MMoCA Teen Forum!

Keomali:

Hello! My name is Keomali, and I am a freshman in high school. Some of my interests are writing, music, and the arts. I love to write short stories, draw, and play the viola. One of my favorite things to do is travel, and I also enjoy reading and bullet journaling.

Oscar:

Hello! My name is OJ and I am a sophomore in high school. I enjoy photography, cinematography and mostly video editing. I’m a self-taught editor and my main focus is to create innovative art.

Ransom:

My name is Ransom and I am a senior in high school. I enjoy making all types of art, but I especially like painting and am currently experimenting with gouache. I love looking at strange art that goes outside the box to create something thought provoking. I also think that fashion is a very unappreciated form of art that can make everyday life more exciting.

Sophie:

Hello! My name is Sophie Kunstman, and I am currently a junior in high school. While I’m not rollerskating, reading, or blasting disco music, I ground myself in my art. I do this mostly through illustration, painting, and digital art, but I am interested in exploring non-traditional forms, as well as bringing them out to the public. Along with art, I find the sciences fascinating, and hope to combine both sides of my brain while creating!

Thavida:

Hello! My name is Thavida, and I’m a junior in high school. I appreciate all kinds of art forms, and I am very passionate about creating drawings, digital art, and paintings. Some of my hobbies (aside from art, of course) include reading and listening to music.

Z:

Hey there! I’m Z, and I’m a sophomore in high school. My pronouns are they/them and he/him. I love all kinds of art and am a huge fan of cartoons and animation. I hope you enjoy the exhibition we set up!
