Overview

Melanie Herzog will discuss cross-cultural influences in Jeffrey Gibson’s work, including his use of pictorial devices, motifs, and materials that reflect his Choctaw and Cherokee heritage, pan-Native American visual culture, and modernist visual art. Herzog is a Professor of Art History and Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Edgewood College. Her academic emphasis is on race, ethnicity, gender, representation, and cross-cultural exchanges among artists. Admission to the talk is free.
