Young Woman in London

Cindy Wright

2007

oil on canvas

63" x 55 1/2"

This painting is based on a photograph the artist took of a woman walking along the river Thames. The photorealistic style and large scale suggest the image is true to life. In Young Woman in London, we are told the subject is young, yet the wrinkles around her eyes and the mottled skin on her face and neck are emphasized and exaggerated. In her paintings, Wright often confronts viewers with details of flesh in order to encourage the viewer to reflect on the fragility of life.
