Uncalculated Crossing

In 1994, the Madison Art Center held a fundraiser that invited guests to select the next work of art for the permanent collection. Yoshida’s Uncalculated Crossing won by one vote (beating out a photograph by Barbara Ess).
A few years later a retrospective of Yoshida’s work was held at the museum. Yoshida, who was born in Hawaii to Japanese parents, came to the opening and handed out leis. The artist passed away in 2009, and two years later, the Kohler Foundation gifted nearly forty works of art by Yoshida and other artists from his collection.
