About
In the summer of 2025, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art will present the Wisconsin Triennial, a survey of contemporary Wisconsin art. Artists from across the state are invited to apply to this exhibition.
In a return to its original form, the 2025 Wisconsin Triennial will be a juried exhibition selected and organized by MMoCA curatorial staff to reflect current directions in Wisconsin’s visual arts scene. Each selected artist will be represented either by a single work or a small group of works. The exhibition will be installed in the Museum’s Main Galleries. Other spaces, such as the Museum Lobby and Rooftop Sculpture Garden, may also be utilized.
If you would prefer, you may apply via email to curatorial@mmoca.org. The subject of your email should be WI Triennial Application. In the body of your email please include your name, your phone number, your website and/or social media handles.
Please attach the following to the email:
- A biography of no more than 1 paragraph of 6 sentences
- An artist statement of no more than one page
- A CV of no more than 10 pages
- 5 images of artwork, including no more than 1 installation image
- If you think any other materials would be beneficial—such as an image list or details to explain your artworks—you may attach one additional file
Please label all files with your name. For example: FridaKahlo.ArtistStatement, FridaKahlo.CV, FridaKahlo.Image1, etc.
ELIGIBILITY
Artists who are residents of the State of Wisconsin are invited to submit examples of artwork(s) created in the last three years. Original work in all media will be considered.
ENTRY PROCEDURE
Artists may submit a maximum of five examples of work, which can be represented by still images or video. Along with the images of artwork, artists are asked to submit a brief biography, CV, and written artist statement.
SELECTION PROCESS
After an initial review of all submitted material, MMoCA’s curatorial staff will contact a select number of artists with whom they will schedule individual studio visits. The studio visits will take place throughout November and December 2024. Once all visits are completed, the curators will reconvene to select artists and specific artworks to be included in the Wisconsin Triennial exhibition. These artists will receive an official invitation to participate in December 2024.
SELECTED WORKS
Participating artists will receive information regarding the production of an exhibition publication, transportation arrangements, as well as a formal loan agreement. MMoCA will provide door-to-door insurance for works at their designated value. Participating artists will receive a modest stipend to ease the costs of sharing their work.
