In 2001, Steir painted the gallery walls of the museum for her exhibition red yellow blue I love you: Wall Paintings by Pat Steir. During the install, all staff members were asked to step out as she intuitively painted her large-scale wall murals. There was an unusual request by the artist for a loaf of Wonderbread, which the staff suspected was used to create texture on the wall.
