MADISON, WI –This year, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) will create an enjoyable, elevated experience helping holiday shoppers embrace the coming holiday season. Taking place November 18 to 20, 2016, the 46th annual Holiday Art Fair will inspire shoppers with works by skilled artists, makers of fine craft, and purveyors of epicurean delights.

This year for the first time, MMoCA has chosen a featured artist, Mary Pratt, creator of graceful, nature-inspired wood-fired pottery. Enjoy her fine ceramics as well as other Holiday Art Fair delights such as chocolates and caramels from Chocolaterian; performances by the Theatre LILA and Kanopy Dance; and fragrant, eco-friendly soy candles from Madison-based Reek Havoc.

Holiday Art Fair shoppers can enjoy indulging in gourmet samples and performances, as their purchases keep the arts thriving. As a signature fundraiser for the museum, this event helps maintain free admission to MMoCA exhibitions and education programs, as well as creating a marketplace for the work of artists and craftspeople. Holiday Art Fair is also a driver of the local economy, drawing people to downtown Madison for shopping and dining.

Holiday Art Fair will again take place throughout the gorgeous spaces of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art and Overture Center for the Arts. Favorite traditions return such as the Silent Auction, Gourmet Galleries, and the Rediscovered Treasures & Art Sale; while the Fair’s preview reception sees a new twist with delicious sampling, chamber music, and a chance to shop the fair VIP style. Also new to this year’s fair are designer vignettes, holiday ‘selfie’ booths, and more seasonal inspiration and ideas than ever before.

Over 90 exhibitors will participate, including more than 70 artists traveling from across North America—25 of which are new to the fair—and a number of Wisconsin’s best gourmet food vendors.

Artists: the Heart of the Fair

To ensure a range of high quality art and craft, artists selected for the 2016 Holiday Art Fair were jury-chosen from nearly 200 applicants. Among the works available to shoppers are jewelry, clothing and accessories, sculpture, paintings, prints, photographs, and fine craft objects. Participating artists demonstrate sophisticated skill across a variety of media.

  • Ceramist Mary Pratt’s vessels and vases reflect her commitment to recreating nature’s detail with an ageless material. Pratt was selected as the 2016 Holiday Art Fair’s Featured Artist.
  • The functional wood works of Joel and Karma Brokaw combine the natural beauty of both domestic and exotic woods. Their family has been crafting one-of-a-kind wooden desk and dining accessories for 34 years.
  • Photographer Rudolph De Ram’s passion for the American West is a focus of his sepia-toned archival pigment prints. He also creates sepia-toned transfer prints on stained pine boards.
  • Collaborators Sundie and Brad Ruppert create 2D works from reclaimed scraps of cowboy hat felt cut into 1,000s of pieces that are individually nailed to wood bases.
  • Fifteen jewelers, including Vanessa Walilko whose brightly-colored works are made of anodized aluminum; and Shauna Zeck, who creates both traditional and contemporary Native American jewelry.

Art and craft lovers can also preview works by all of the participating artists and create their own must-have lists in advance of the fair at, under Holiday Art Fair.

Featured Artist

Mary Pratt was selected as the Holiday Art Fair’s first ‘featured artist’ in the event’s 46-year history. Based in Lake Geneva, WI, Pratt is a nationally-recognized, Roycroft Renaissance ceramic artist who creates elegantly detailed art pottery inspired by her natural surroundings.  Drawing primarily from her love and appreciation of nature, and the Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau philosophies, Pratt creates intricately sculpted, intimately scaled porcelain and stoneware pieces with a contemporary twist.  She exhibits in galleries, stores, and art fairs nationally.

“In the course of our existence, it is possible to live an entire lifetime never touching anything handmade. Like those who lived before me, I am committed to recreating nature’s detail with an ageless material,” expressed Pratt. Find Mary Pratt’s beautiful work in her booth as well as in the Holiday Art Fair Silent Auction.

Gourmet Food Galleries

The 2016 Holiday Art Fair will feature18 Gourmet Gallery vendors with a wide selection of delicacies and indulgent treats, including artisan cheeses from Fromagination; chocolates and caramels from Chocolaterian; and wild Alaskan seafood from Sitka Salmon Shares. The galleries also include specialty items like Cackle Bee’s homemade honey bath and beauty products, and humorous, eco-friendly soy candles from Reek Havoc. This is a can’t-miss opportunity to sample and purchase gifts for all of the locavores and gourmands on your holiday list.

Designer Vignettes and Photo Booths

Holiday Art Fair shoppers can borrow ideas for making their homes more artful by viewing a pair of styled vignettes, which feature art for sale by exhibiting artists along with contemporary furnishings and more. Fairgoers will also enjoy an opportunity to take ‘selfies’ or snap a fun family picture for holiday cards in two holiday-themed photo booths.

Silent Auction and the Rediscovered Treasures & Art Sale

Holiday Art Fair shoppers can bid on artworks from some of the exhibiting artists in the Silent Auction room, or unearth great finds in the Rediscovered Treasures & Art Sale. Located on the Lower Level of the Overture Center for the Arts, the silent auction features donated works from dozens of exhibiting artists. In the always popular Rediscovered Treasures & Art Sale, shoppers will find a treasure trove of preowned original art, jewelry, small antiques, decorative art, prized collectibles, books, and other artful items. Proceeds from the auction and the sale directly support MMoCA.
