MADISON, WI – Madison's semiannual celebration of the visual arts, Gallery Night, will be held on Friday, May 1, 2009, from 5 to 9 pm. Fifty-nine venues--a record number--will participate in this spring's event. Art lovers can look forward to an evening packed with free demonstrations, new works of art, and live performances.
Spring Gallery Night venues include museums, galleries, coffee shops, and other businesses across the city. Highlights include:
- Exhibitions openings at the Chazen Museum of Art and the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art;
- Spectacular Spectacular; an exhibition of works by MFA/MA candidates at the University of Wisconsin-Madison;
- A time-based live installation at DNA Studios; a performance installation of video and movement by WYOU at Dance Fabulous; and a performance by local musician Doug Brown at Steep & Brew Gallery;
- Glass-blowing demonstrations at Radiant Glass and ceramics demonstrations at Fine Earth Studio;
- New handcrafted works from Mexico at Chiripa, from Rwanda at Lucent Room Studio, and from cultures across the world at Eastside Bazaar;
- Past and present aerial kite views of Madison on display at Ancora Coffee;
- Artists spanning the generations, from the young at Earley Design to seniors at the Madison Senior Center.
