Art on Tour

Overview

Through MMoCA Art on Tour, original works of art from the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art’s permanent collection travel to six public elementary schools in Dane County, Wisconsin. The program supports interdisciplinary learning through visual art and provides students with unique opportunities to experience original, museum-quality art in their schools. Through Art on Tour, MMoCA and the participating schools form a three-year program partnership. Schools receive a different Art on Tour exhibition each year.

This teaching website supports classroom use of MMoCA Art on Tour by providing analysis of the featured works of art, background information on the artists, discussion questions, key ideas, vocabulary, and resources for further study to help teachers make the most of the exhibitions while they are installed at their school.

Generous funding for Art on Tour has been provided by the Nimick Forbesway Foundation and an anonymous donor.

Visit the virtual student exhibition to see works of art inspired by Web of Life: Nature in Art, the exhibition that traveled to schools this past year.
