THIS WEEK - ART CART BEGINS POPPING UP IN PARKS

MADISON, WI—Art Cart is Rolling Again! This beloved program sets out for the summer. The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) and the Madison School & Community Recreation have provided free hands-on art experiences to thousands of children in Madison through the Art Cart program. Art Cart and Art Cart EXTRA! are free outdoor art programs that travel to parks, playgrounds, and beaches across Dane County in summer. Art Cart begins its Madison rounds on Thursday, June 14. Art Cart EXTRA! travels to area communities beginning Saturday, June 16. Kids enjoy expert instruction and a relaxed attitude as they make art outdoors. Children ages three and above are welcome with an adult.

Art Cart projects provide children with sophisticated and inspired activities in an accessible, engaging, and fun environment. A variety of materials and creative processes are offered for participants to explore. Past projects include relief printmaking, art journals, and found-object sculptures.

“We connect people of all ages and backgrounds with the transformative power of art,” said Sheri Castelnuovo, curator of education at MMoCA. “Art Cart and Art Cart EXTRA! are among the many ways the museum brings fun and meaningful art  experiences to the community.”

Art Cart takes place weekdays from June 14 through August 9. Art Cart is a partnership of MMoCA and Madison School & Community Recreation, focusing on locations in Madison on weekdays.

Art Cart EXTRA! expands the Art Cart program by making visits on Saturdays throughout June and July (June 16, 23, & 30; July 7, 14 & 21). Art Cart EXTRA! travels to twelve Dane County communities outside Madison including Cottage Grove, DeForest, Fitchburg, McFarland, Monona, Mount Horeb, Oregon, Stoughton, Sun Prairie, Verona, Waunakee, and Windsor. Art Cart EXTRA! is a program of MMoCA.

Both programs offer projects for children ages three and above. A schedule and map are available online at mmoca.org; under Learn and For Kids. Participation in Art Cart and Art Cart EXTRA! is free. All children should be accompanied by an adult. Families may participate without pre-registration; however, organized summer camps and other childcare programs in Madison must pre-register by calling 608.204.3021.

Art Cart and Art Cart EXTRA! have been generously funded by the Great Dane Pub & Brewing Company, MGE, the Cummings Christensen Family Foundation, TDS Telecom, Associated Bank, Veridian Homes Foundation, TASC, and Professor Emeritus Josh Chover.
