MMoCA’s 43rd annual Holiday Art Fair

Original Art, Gourmet Food Gifts, Entertainment, and Inspiration

November 22-24, 2013

MADISON, WI --The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art will provide giving inspiration at the 43rd annual Holiday Art Fair from November 22 to 24, 2013. With new and returning exhibitors, features, and entertainers—including hand-crafted, fine crystal gifts by Ray Lapsys, confections from Christine's Gourmet Toffee, and a performance by Kanopy Dance Company--this year’s fair promises to engage all of the senses.

Favorite traditions return such as the Friday preview luncheon, silent auction, Gourmet Gallery, Rediscovered Art & Treasures Sale, and performances by local arts organizations. New this year, a fashion show at the Preview Luncheon will showcase the latest in accessories and handmade accents.  Also new are Gift Guides with handpicked items under $50 for Fashionistas, Foodies, Nature Lovers, and more.

Holiday Art Fair presents shoppers with a rare occasion to indulge themselves, purchase beautiful gifts, and contribute to a valued community arts organization, as this event is a significant fundraiser for the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. Holiday Art Fair is also a driver of the local economy, drawing people to downtown Madison for shopping and dining, while providing a marketplace for local artists.

Holiday Art Fair will again take place throughout the gorgeous spaces of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art and Overture Center for the Arts. Over 80 exhibitors will participate, including more than 70 artists and a number of gourmet food vendors from Wisconsin. Exhibiting artists will travel to the fair from throughout the Midwest.

Artists: the Heart of the Fair

Artists exhibiting at the 2013 Holiday Art Fair were jury-chosen from nearly 200 applicants. Among the works available to shoppers are jewelry, gourmet baskets, holiday decorations, clothing, and fine craft objects, as well as paintings, prints, and photographs. Participating artists demonstrate sophisticated skill across a variety of materials.

  • Diana Fergusonuses both paper and metal in her jewelry making. Many of her sculptural works came about through experimentation with Origami folding.
  • Megan Winn creates leather bound books as beautiful as the memories that could fill them.
  • Dakota Pratt hand crafts lively and detailed home decoration, furniture and accessories that make a statement.
  • Leah Staley creates elegant, interesting jewelry that reflects natural forms yet includes industrial details.
  • Joyce Wilson’s work can help shoppers greet the winter in style, with hats and scarves that reflect current trends and classic styles.
  • Ryan Myers brings his interest in the intimate qualities of smaller objects, the textures of rusty iron, crawling paint on old furniture, to his artful and extraordinary ceramic work.

Artist Preview and a New Gift Guide

New this year, shoppers will find Gift Guides, under Holiday Art Fair on, with handpicked gifts under $50 for many types: foodie, fashionista, romantic, literary, eclectic, and nature lover.  Art and craft lovers can also preview works by all of the participating artists and create their own must-have lists in advance of the fair at, under Holiday Art Fair.

Two Gourmet Food Galleries

Holiday Art Fair will offer two Gourmet Galleries with a wide selection of delicacies from local vendors, including Midwestern small-batch preserves and syrups from Quince & Apple; locally sourced artisanal charcuterie and salami from Underground Meats; and indulgent treats from Maurie’s Fine Chocolates. This is a can’t-miss opportunity to sample delectable treats and purchase gifts for all of the locavores and gourmands on your holiday list.

Silent Auction and Once Loved Treasures

Shoppers at the Holiday Art Fair can bid on donated works from exhibiting artists, and perhaps find a bargain in the process, at the fair’s annual silent auction. A visit to the silent auction is also a great way to preview works and determine a personal list of must-see booths at the fair. Auction revenue supports the museum’s free community programs.

Authentic African masks, canvas prints, fair-trade jewelry, and handmade Mexican art pieces are  a few of the items that will be available at this year’s Rediscovered Art & Treasures Sale. Back by popular demand, the sale offers a treasure–trove of donated original art, jewelry, small antiques, decorative art, prized collectibles, books and other “pre-loved” items.
