MMoCA Launches New Interactive Event, Under the Influence

MMoCA Launches New Interactive Event, Under the Influence

November 14, 2013 • 6 – 8:30 pm

MADISON, WI—Providing a unique experience of inspiration, creativity, and fun, Under the Influence is a new event by the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA). This program offers the Madison community a fresh way to engage directly with contemporary artists and artwork at the museum. Participants can use their experience with these works to influence and inspire their own masterpiece.

The first Under the Influence will convene in MMoCA’s State Street Gallery on November 14 at 6:30 pm. The evening will be led by 2013 Wisconsin Triennial artist Gabriel Pionkowski who will discuss the inspiration and artistic processes behind his three works on view. Participants then gather in the Education Workshop to create their own artwork, while also enjoying select Wisconsin food and wine pairings.

The recipient of several grants and awards, Pionkowski received his MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His work has been shown at Galerie Lelong and presented extensively throughout the Midwest. Pionkowski is currently a Fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA. As a close collaborator on this first Under the Influence event, Pionkowski stated, “I am excited to be a part of the first of many Under the Influence programs at MMoCA. This program is a wonderful way to highlight how the creative process is first and foremost a process of community. Under the Influence will highlight this collaborative spirit of the arts.”

Under the Influence will be held on Thursday, November 14 at the MMoCA, 227 State Street. Doors open at 6:00. Program begins at 6:30. The cost for the program is $25 for MMoCA members and $30 for non-members. Participation is limited to guests aged 21+. To ensure this event is both fun and functional, space is limited to 25 participants, so enthusiastic individuals should register early at Please contact Kaitlin at 608.257.0158 x224 or with questions.
