First Art Cart Appearance is This Week!

Bringing Creative Expression to Children Across Madison and Dane County

MADISON, WI—Art Cart rolls out this week, with the first Art Cart EXTRA! stop on Saturday, June 15. The popular mobile art programs Art Cart and Art Cart EXTRA! will be on the road again this summer; reaching children throughout Madison and Dane County. For nearly four decades, the Art Cart van has offered hands-on projects to children at no cost. With expert art instruction and a relaxed attitude, projects often incorporate natural materials or take advantage of outdoor settings, as the van travels to parks, playgrounds, and beaches where children and families gather.

Art Cart EXTRA! will travel to the area communities of Black Earth, Cottage Grove, Cross Plains, DeForest, Fitchburg, Lake Mills, McFarland, Mount Horeb, Stoughton, Sun Prairie, and Waunakee beginning Saturday, June 15. Art Cart EXTRA! is a program of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA).

Art Cart will begin making rounds in Madison on June 20. Art Cart is jointly sponsored by MMoCA and Madison School & Community Recreation.

Both programs offer projects for children ages three and above. Families who see the familiar white van with monkeys on the side can just drop by to join in the fun. A schedule and map are also available online at; click Programs and Events/Children’s Programs.

Participation in Art Cart and Art Cart EXTRA! is free. All children should be accompanied by an adult. Families may participate in either program without pre-registration; however, organized summer camps and other childcare programs must pre-register by calling 608.257.0158 x 227.

Art Cart and Art Cart EXTRA! are generously supported by the Great Dane Pub & Brewing Company, the Alliant Energy Foundation, the Cummings Christensen Family Foundation, Culver’s Frozen Custard and Butterburgers, Terry Haller, TDS Telecommunications Corporation, and Madison South Rotary Foundation.
