Special First Fridays Celebration

MMoCA Marks One-Year Anniversary
With Special First Fridays Celebration

MADISON, WI – Since opening in its new home a year ago, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art has presented ten acclaimed exhibitions, welcomed nearly 200,000 visitors, and established a number of new programs and traditions. One of these traditions, First Fridays at MMoCA, will be the setting for the museum's first-anniversary celebration. Visitors are invited to drop by MMoCA between 5:30 and 8 pm on April 6 to enjoy a special edition of this signature event.
The anniversary celebration will include these festivities:

  • Anniversary cake (while it lasts);
  • Music from one of Madison's favorite cover bands, the Hometown Sweethearts;
  • Party hat decoration in MMoCA's education classroom;
  • Docent-led tours of current exhibitions.

In addition, members of the museum's board of trustees will be on hand from 5:30 to 6:30 pm to talk with visitors about favorite artworks from the museum's permanent collection. Like staff recommendations at local wine or book stores, MMoCA's “Board Favorites” are non-scholarly recommendations-art lover to art lover-intended to showcase works in the collection, while also encouraging visitors to enjoy their own favorite works.
The cost for the April 6 First Fridays at MMoCA is $5; however, the event is free for MMoCA members and for anyone wearing a party hat.
First Fridays at MMoCA are sponsored by Newcomb Construction Company, with media support from Isthmus Publishing Company.
Hours at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art are Tuesday–Wednesday (11 am–5 pm); Thursday-Friday (11 am–8 pm); Saturday (10 am–8 pm); and Sunday (noon–5 pm). The museum is closed on Mondays.

Admission to exhibitions at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art is free of charge. Free admissions are supported through memberships and through generous contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
