Seminar on Modern and Contemporary Art

Seminar on Modern and Contemporary Art
Begins February 15 at MMoCA

MADISON, WI – The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) presents Face, Place, and Space in Modern and Contemporary Art, a three-part seminar beginning Thursday, February 15. The series is organized in conjunction with the museum's new major exhibition, In Depth: A Closer Look at MMoCA's Permanent Collection. Dr. Richard H. Axsom, noted scholar, award-winning author, and Professor Emeritus of Art History at the University of Michigan, served as guest curator for the exhibition and will lead the seminar.
With a collection of 5,000 objects, MMoCA is one of the state's premier repositories for modern and contemporary art. In Depth brings together key strengths of the collection, allowing viewers to examine artistic trends related to the art of our times. Face, Place, and Space in Modern and Contemporary Art will explore and elaborate on these trends.
The seminar is offered in three 90-minute sessions on three consecutive Thursdays (February 15 and 22, and March 1). Each 90-minute session begins with an illustrated lecture in the museum's auditorium and moves to the main galleries for discussion of related works included in the exhibition.
Lectures are free for MMoCA members. Cost for nonmembers is $10 per seminar; $25 for the series. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required; contact MMoCA's education department at 257.0158 x 227 to reserve tickets.
Face, Place, and Space in Modern and Contemporary Art was made possible through the generous support of Valerie and Andreas Kazamias.
