Fifty-Three Venues Will
Participate in Fall 2007 Gallery Night
October 5, 2007 5–9 pm
MADISON, WI –Madison’s semiannual celebration of the visual arts returns on October 5 as a record-breaking 53 venues participate in the Fall 2007 Gallery Night. Art lovers will enjoy extended hours, opening receptions, tours, and hands-on activities for all ages, among other special events. The evening also offers unique opportunities to meet artists and view their latest works.
Gallery Night venues include museums, galleries, coffee shops, and other businesses in east, west, and central areas of the city. The printed guide to Gallery Night, with details about offerings and locations, will be available free of charge at participating establishments. A map and list of Gallery Night participants will also be available in the October 5 edition of Isthmus and online at www.mmoca.org.
Highlights of Fall 2007 Gallery Night include:
-- a lecture by photographer Michael Kienitz on Small Arms–Children of Conflict, an exhibition of his work at the Chazen Museum of Art;
-- Artistic Expressions on Global Warming, an exhibition organized by the Wisconsin Art Therapy Association;
-- a unique collection of architectural and vintage finds such as a “fab lab” table, print block mirror, and a chalkboard desk, at Unearthed;
-- images that professional photographers shoot when they’re not “on the job,” at Azena Photography;
-- an exhibition titled The Book as Art, with works by more than 30 artists from around the country;
-- a Brett Favre-inspired exhibition, a Les Blank documentary about polka music, and new Museum Store merchandise at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art;
-- an exhibition of art department faculty at Edgewood College and a bachelor’s of fine arts exhibition at UW-Madison;
-- a show of fish-related artwork as a fundraiser for a stream restoration group headed by Bill Weege at Douglas Art & Frame;
-- the work of 16 artists who work and teach at Higher Fire Clay Studio;
-- a 35th anniversary celebration exhibition at the Fanny Garver Gallery;
-- dog and cat art at a veterinary clinic.
