MMoCA's tour program has a reputation for providing high-quality experiences that engage visitors with works of art through guided discussion. MMoCA's docents are adept at involving visitors of various ages and backgrounds with modern and contemporary art. Tours emphasize observation, analysis, and interpretation, and encourage visitors to think critically and creatively about the art on view. Groups of 10 to 75 people may schedule a guided tour of the museum.
Call the Education Department at (608) 257-0158 or email scasteln@mmoca.org to schedule a guided tour or to request a self-guided visit of MMoCA exhibitions. Please schedule guided tours at least three weeks in advance of your desired date. Exceptions to this timeline may be arranged upon consultation with Education Department staff.
Teaching guides are available upon request and contain information on a selection of artists and artworks. Also included are key concepts addressed in each work; discussion questions; related vocabulary; pre- and post-visit lesson ideas in visual arts, language arts, social studies, and other subjects as applicable; resources for further study; and full-color illustrations in print and on CDRom. Teachers are welcome to keep the guides as an ongoing classroom resource.
All guided tours meet Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for visual arts. Tours also may be tailored to address social studies or language arts standards.
MMoCA's classroom is available upon request for teacher-led activities following a tour and may be reserved for lunch for up to 35 students. Teachers who wish to lead activities in the classroom may supply their own materials or may request that the museum supply materials at a cost of $1.50 per student. Specialized materials may require a higher per-student fee.
The museum is fully accessible.
Group rates: $1 per person for school groups; $3 per person for groups of adults. Tour fees are waived for students who qualify for free and reduced lunch programs.
