Media, plural :: Medium, singular

Media, as a general art term, refers to the physical materials an artist selects to create a work of art and the technical means by which he or she executes it. The media categories in modern and contemporary art are: painting, sculpture, drawing, prints, photography, electronic-based art, and installation art. Each of these categories, in turn, has a variety of particular materials that further define the artist's specific medium, such as a painting created with either oil paints or acrylic paints.
