Featured MMoCA Artworks

Each work of art in this section is accompanied by a brief interpretive discussion. An interpretation of a work of art is an analysis of what an artist may be expressing. It concerns itself with meaning.

Our responses to a work of art come from the eye, the mind, and the heart in a creative dialogue. What the viewer brings to the work of art—personal sensibilities and experiences, cultural habits, background information—provides the basis for meaning. A work of art's meaning is not fixed; it may vary from person to person, from one generation to the next.

The following commentaries are suggestions for understanding and interpreting the artworks featured on MMoCA Collects. As you consider these suggestions, look carefully and trust your eye.
