Gallery Talk: Language, Perception, and the Visual Arts

February 16, 2018 - 6:30pm to 7:00pm

What is the role of language in making us human? Can language literally change what we see? Using Jaume Plensa: Talking Continents as a point of departure, professor Gary Lupyan will discuss language and its relevance to art and aesthetics, as well as how different languages may lead their speakers to view art in different ways.

Gary Lupyan is associate professor in the UW-Madison Department of Psychology and director of the Lupyan Lab, which investigates topics related to language and its effects on human cognition.
