ArtZone

MMoCA’s afterschool art program for middle school youth offers engaging tours of exhibitions in combination with related hands-on workshops. The Education Department invites youth coordinators at area neighborhood and community centers to register their students for the program this year. Students in afterschool programs at area schools are also welcome to attend. MMoCA provides supplies, instruction, and transportation free-of-charge to ArtZone participants.

Support for ArtZone has been generously provided by the CUNA Mutual Foundation and the Madison Arts Commission.

Let’s look

These fun, interactive hand-outs help children to think imaginatively about what they are seeing while learning about art and artists. Let’s look handouts are designed for families to use together and are available for free at the entrance to MMoCA’s exhibitions.

Kids' Art Adventures

Kids’ Art Adventures invites families to make art together inspired by the MMoCA’s current exhibitions. Activities are planned for 6 to 10 year olds, but younger siblings are welcome. Children must be accompanied by a parent or other adult. Program participants should plan to meet promptly at 1 pm in MMoCA’s main lobby. Free.

Sunday, May 18 1 pm
In this Kids’ Art Adventure, children will explore TL Solien’s lush and colorful canvases, on view in the main galleries, and discover the stories in his art. In the classroom, they will make paintings that picture important parts of their own lives. Led by art educator Marnie Hyland.

Sponsored by American Family Insurance.

ArtPack

Stop by the reception desk in the MMoCA lobby and ask for the MMoCAkids ArtPack, the museum’s new hands-on discovery kit for exploring art. Designed for families to use together, the ArtPack contains a variety of activities that promote observation and imaginative thinking about visual art. The kit is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing families to choose which activities to use and what to look at in the galleries. Adults accompanying children must leave identification to borrow ArtPacks.

The MMoCAkids ArtPack was developed by MMoCA’s Education Department and designed by Scott A. Pauli. Support for the program was provided by the Art League of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art.
