On the Road Again!
Art Cart Fired Up for Another Summer Season
MADISON, WI -- Madison's roving art van will hit area streets and backroads again this summer, bringing outdoor art adventures to neighborhoods in Madison and Dane County. Two programs, Art Cart and Art Cart EXTRA!, will offer free art-making experiences to kids and their families. Both programs invite families to just drop by--no reservations necessary--and join in the fun.
Art Cart will travel to parks, beaches, and playgrounds in Madison beginning June 19. Organized by the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) and Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR), Art Cart celebrates its 33rd birthday with more than 90 stops this summer, including evening programs at many locations. Art Cart runs June 19 through August 21, excluding July 4 and 17.
Art Cart EXTRA! takes the program to eleven additional communities on Saturdays. Now in its tenth year, Art Cart EXTRA! will travel to Black Earth, Cross Plains, DeForest, Fitchburg, Lake Mills, Monona, Mount Horeb, Stoughton, Sun Prairie, Verona, and Waunakee. Two sites are visited each Saturday during the six-week program. Art Cart EXTRA! is a project of MMoCA, and runs from June 14 through July 26, excluding July 5.
Both programs are appropriate for kids 4 to 8 years old, although all ages are welcome. Children age 5 and under must be accompanied by a supervising adult. Participants should “dress for a mess” in comfortable play clothes.
Advance registration is not necessary for either program. However, groups of eight or more are asked to call the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (608.257.0158) at least one day in advance to ensure adequate supplies.
Schedules for Art Cart and Art Cart EXTRA! may be viewed on the museum's website, www.mmoca.org; click Events/Art Cart.
Generous support for Art Cart and Art Cart EXTRA! has been provided TDS Telecom, Alliant Energy Foundation, Great Dane Pub and Brewing Company, and the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission with additional funds from the American Girl's Fund for Children and the Evjue Foundation.
