Internships

MMoCA Internships are open to undergraduates who have completed their sophomore year, recent college graduates, and graduate students. MMoCA Internships are unpaid, but students often arrange academic credit through their college or university.

MMoCA Internships are typically project-oriented within a specific department. The availability of internships is determined by the needs of individual departments within the limitations of staff, space, exhibition schedules, and the varying potential for challenging intern projects. MMoCA may consider candidates with interest in several areas of the museum, including membership and development, education, exhibitions, marketing and communications, and the MMoCA library.

Academic Year

These opportunities typically run the full academic year from mid-September through mid-May—with breaks for holidays. Interns benefit from working at the museum for 8 to 10 hours per week over an extended period. Specific schedules are worked out at the beginning of each semester depending on an intern’s other obligations. The application deadline for the 2011-2012 academic year is Friday, September 9, 2011.

Summer

These opportunities run from early June through late August. Interns benefit from working an intensive weekly, 15 to 20-hour schedule at the museum. Specific schedules are worked out at the beginning of the summer depending on an intern’s other obligations. The application deadline is May 1.

Semester

These opportunities run over the course of one academic semester and are only available for the MMoCA contemporary art library. To be eligible, candidates must be enrolled in a graduate-level library program at an accredited American university. Each library intern will work with museum staff to design an internship that complements their studies and specific interests in library science. Library interns typically work 8 to 10 hours per week over the course of a semester, or more hours if they prefer. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis but should be submitted at least six weeks prior to the intended start date.
