Art Fair on the Square Named in Top 10 Art Fairs
Event Continues to Stay Fresh with New Emerge Block

Saturday, July 9 (9 am–6 pm)
Sunday, July 10 (10 am–5 pm)

Madison, WI- Recognizing the high quality of art on view, meticulous organization of the event, strong crowd and high community support, and gorgeous setting, Art Fair on the Square - organized annually by the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art - was recently named as one of the top 10 fine art fairs in the country by ArtFairCalendar.com, the most noted website for art fair event listings and Art Fair Sourcebook. The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) will present this major event on July 9 and 10, with more than 480 artists displaying original fine art and craft, handmade clothing, original photography, jewelry, and much more.

Art Fair on the Square remains one of Madison’s most beloved events. Attracting nearly 200,000 people from across the region, generating nearly $25 million for the local economy, while presenting and promoting the visual arts; Art Fair on the Square is MMoCA’s most important annual fundraiser. This event provides crucial support that keeps admission to the museum free for all visitors and supports free education programs with the local schools. Not only is Art Fair on the Square essential to MMoCA’s fundraising, it also has a profound impact on participating artists and the community as a whole. In 2015, artists reported average sales of $6,852 during the fair (and an average of $378 in post-fair sales) – generating $2.95 million in total artwork sales. The fair boosts Dane County’s tourism, trade, and nationwide visibility.

Top 4 Reasons to Be Excited:
1. The Emerge Block. Launching at the 2016 Art Fair on the Square, the 100 block of State Street will be dedicated to emerging artists who have been selected by a jury process. The Emerge Block will give skilled, yet developing artists the much-needed experience of selling work at a major art fair, and will offer fairgoers a look at up-and-coming artists.
2. Music and Entertainment. As in past years, this year’s fair will include a large array of diverse entertainment. Visitors can look forward to musical acts and dance performances from Madison artists as well as acts from out-of-town.
3. Food. Visitors can indulge in Madison’s outstanding culinary scene while taking in live entertainment and viewing the artists’ work. Art Fair on the Square offers nearly every type of cuisine, including favorite local establishments.
4. Shop. In addition to some 500 artists selling work around the square, the Silent Auction Tent features donated works from hundreds of the exhibiting artists and all proceeds directly support MMoCA. By visiting the Silent Auction Tent shoppers sample the variety of works available at the fair and determine their personal list of must-see booths.

Reflecting its importance to MMoCA and the community, Art Fair on the Square continues to thrive and grow. Additional details will be released in early June.
