MMoCA Announces Participants Selected for Design MMoCA 2016

MMoCA Announces Participants Selected for Design MMoCA 2016

April 30 – May 8, 2016

MADISON, WI— The fifth biennial Design MMoCA is a unique art and design event offering a one-of-a-kind showcase of Madison’s talented design community and celebrating the museum’s permanent collection.  Fourteen designers have been selected to participate this year. Each will break the pattern of their day-to-day work, creating an unrestrained project inspired by an artwork in the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) permanent collection.

The projects created by Design MMoCA participants will be exhibited in the museum’s galleries and lobby. This year’s projects will include fantasy product design, inspired interiors, inventive textiles, wall-blanketing graphics, imaginative architectural structures, and interactive media installations. During the event, the museum will also host a variety of related activities, including opportunities to meet-and-greet with the designers, gallery talks, panel discussions, and more.  Design MMoCA 2016 will open with a Preview Gala, to be held on Friday, April 29, 2016.

Design MMoCA Background

Design MMoCA has been held biennially since 2008, conceived as both a signature design event for the city of Madison and a fundraiser in support of MMoCA's free exhibitions and education programs. Through its first four iterations, Design MMoCA featured the work of nearly 50 Madison-area designers and design teams, and drew some 15,000 total attendees to the museum.
