MMoCA Docent Training Offered
MADISON, WI —Enthusiastic about art and people? Organized? Open-minded and curious? Join the dynamic group of docents at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. Docent training will be offered from 1 to 3:30 pm on Tuesdays, September 25 through December 18, at the museum.
MMoCA’s volunteer docents contribute time, energy, enthusiasm, and knowledge to help visitors gain insight into art. By leading tours for adults and children, docents are a vital part of the museum’s education and outreach efforts. They explain processes, themes, and ideas related to works of art, and involve tour group members in lively interactions with works on view.
The twelve-week training course includes grounding in modern and contemporary art; art media and processes; behind-the-scenes museum operations; tour techniques; and more. There is no tuition fee; however, there is a modest cost for training materials. Docents also must become members of the museum.
In recognition of their service to the museum, docents receive benefits such as private exhibition orientations with artists and curators and a 20% discount at MMoCA’s award-winning Museum Store. Docents also provide cultural enrichment to community members in a dynamic visual and social environment.
