Madison Facts

· Madison is one of only a few cities in the world built on an isthmus. Downtown Madison is set on a narrow strip of land between two glacial lakesóLake Mendota and Lake Monona.

· The city is named for former President James Madison and the downtown streets surrounding the Wisconsin State Capitol are named for the 39 signers of the U.S. Constitution.

· The Wisconsin State Capitol is the cityís signature landmark. No building in Madison can rise higher than the 284-foot white granite dome of the Capitol, which is modeled after our nationís Capitol.

Getting to Madison

Located in south central Wisconsin, Madison is just off Interstates I-90, I-94 and I-39, providing easy access to Milwaukee (90 minutes), Chicago (2 1⁄2 hours) and Minneapolis (4 1⁄2 hours).

Dane County Regional Airport offers direct non-stop service to Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Detroit, Las Vegas, Memphis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, New York- LaGuardia, Newark, St. Louis and Washington, D.C.

Commercial air carriers that offer service from the Dane County Regional Airport include Northwest, United Express, Midwest Connect, Continental Express, American Eagle, American Connection, Comair and Atlantic Southeast Airlines, a Delta Connection carrier.
